Wish to know the Truth about Nutraceuticals? The Indian Nutraceuticals market is estimated at around $ 4 Billion in 2017 and the market is growing fast! No wonder, 39% respondents in our recent study believe that Nutraceuticals are needed if person feels tired and rundown. Is it true? Do we really need such supplements? Let us have a look at NUTRILITE (Amway Multivitamins- ₹ 2229 for 120 tablets). The amount of nutrients this product claims to deliver is either too less or is too high, when compared with the daily RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance). For example, the RDA of Calcium is 600 mg whereas one tablet of Nutrilite Multivitamin is giving only 200 mg of calcium. A plain glass of milk (250 ml) provides us 525 mg of Calcium. Even a single banana provides 364 mg of calcium.https://lnkd.in/fSsTRY7

"Are your hair and beard gummies missing the mark? Discover the surprising truth behind their effectiveness."Sadly, this is the case for most nutraceuticals sold in the market 💊 Currently, FSSAI regulates nutraceuticals which might touch the 18 billion dollar mark (2025) from 4 billion dollars in 2020 at a CAGR of 20%.Due to the sedentary lifestyle and health consciousness, the young generation is falling prey to buying these nutraceuticals as an add-on supplement to cater to their daily nutrition requirements, without knowing anything about the daily dosage and adverse effects of those in the long runNow, the Indian drug regulator (CDSCO) has shown interest in regulating nutraceuticals within the country. ✍ Why is the case? you might ask.FSSAI is considering nutraceuticals as a food supplement. So, this bypasses the much-required clinical trial phases and regulatory hurdles to get marketed within the country. Also, when the FSSAI themselvesconducted their studyfrom 2019 to 2022, they found that nearly 5,000 samples of these supplements were unsafe, over 16,500 were substandard, and about 11,500 labels were misleading!Indians are consuming way more nutrients than are required through nutraceuticals. The best example is that, Taking iron pills in the long run, will be deposited in your body, particularly in the liver, and can cause disorders such as cirrhosis. Even vitamin D for that matter. Excess calcium in your blood can lead to a toxic accumulation and cause bone problems.By regulating nutraceuticals, we can expect good quality approved ingredients, clinical studies backed claims, prevent false advertising, and streamlining labeling and manufacturing of multivitamins and enzymes, etc.Yet to see, how the CDSCO forms the regulations for Nutraceuticals!#nutraceuticals #CDSCO #FSSAI #regulatoryaffairs

The health organization Cambridge Health Alliance and Harvard Medical School conducted a study on sports supplement labels, ingredients and the presence of substances banned by the FDA. Published on July 17, the study was led by physician Pieter Cohen and colleagues. The team purchased 63 products and analyzed 57 products that met their criteria. Accordingly, it was found that 40 percent, 23 of them, did not contain the ingredients written on the label. The actual amount of the products ranged from 0.02 percent to 334 percent of the amount on the label. Only 6 out of 57 products, i.e. 11 percent, were found to contain an ingredient amount of 10 percent of the amount on the label.Evaluating the results of the research, Pharmacology Specialist Professor Okan YILLAR said that the products produced by well-known, large industrial organizations should be used in consultation with a physician. Pointing out that the figures are very serious, Yıllar said, “It must be in the content written on the label. In some of them, there are products that the FDA does not approve and finds objectionable. These are strong amines. When a person uses this, their sympathetic systems are stimulated. Blood pressure rises, heart palpitations occur. Appetite disappears, sleep problems develop. If people who do heavy sports use such supplements, they may have a heart attack or cerebral hemorrhage.”#FDA #Supplement #Health #Pharmacology

Thank you Duffy MacKay and Mike Tringale, for this interesting reflection on nutraceuticals and the expectations of health professionals and scientists. Those of us who work in this sector have the challenge of knowing how to explain the term Nutraceutical, because as this article explains, words matter. No one here intended to continue increasing the catalogue of drugs, which is already growing at an uncontrolled rate, due to the progress of medicine, the increase in population, ageing, and the consequences of a very improvable lifestyle that demands a full spectrum therapeutic arsenal with a clear intention to cure. These good intentions of physicians had filled homes with capsules, tablets and countless drawers full of blister packs, while the perception of health remained largely unsatisfactory for people. When the boom in vitamin and minerals complexes and other natural supplement like phytotherapy and adaptogens, people approached these alternatives with a more preventive intention, moving away from an excessive medicalisation of their lives. De Felice invented a term (nutraceutical), and under this term grew a sector that has turned the approach to health around, where it is no longer so much about cure as it is about prevention, improving quality of life or better functioning. If we understand that people have taken a more positive, proactive and hopeful attitude towards health, showing great interest in relying on nutraceuticals to accompany their life process, science has the opportunity to adapt to this task by shedding light on different elements than comparative effectiveness versus placebo with gigantic sample sizes in clinical trials. Validating the safety profile of these natural ingredients, explaining their mechanisms of action and reporting the experience of real cases may be more than enough for many people to choose their nutraceutical life companion in order to improve their health.Who just wanted to be cured? Who just wanted another drug? Nutraceuticals: new expectations, new plans.P.D. don't miss this article!#Nutraceuticals #Health #Medicine #Science

A lot of people are starting to choose natural supplements and vitamins instead of prescription medicine for several reasons:1. Fewer side effects: Medicines from doctors can sometimes have bad side effects. Natural supplements and vitamins usually have fewer and less severe side effects, which makes them more attractive.2. Holistic health: Many people believe in a holistic approach to staying healthy, which means focusing on the whole body's balance and harmony. This way of thinking encourages using natural remedies instead of man-made drugs.3. Safety: Some people think that natural supplements and vitamins are safer because they come from nature instead of being made in a lab.4. Adding to regular treatment: Those who want to add something extra to their usual medical treatments might use natural supplements and vitamins to help improve their overall health.5. More research and awareness: As scientists learn more about how some natural supplements and vitamins can help people, more individuals are becoming interested in trying them as part of their healthcare plans.Remember, while natural supplements and vitamins can have health benefits, it's essential not to stop using medicines prescribed by your doctor without talking to a healthcare professional first.

t is so important that you let your health care team know every "medicine" you're taking - whether it be OTC meds, herbal products &/or other supplements. Just because some of these products may be "all-natural," "healthy," "organic," "vegan," or whatever it is, your provider should know. These things can actually interfere with prescribed medication. Be fair to yourself.#knowledgesharing #doctors #besafe https://lnkd.in/gV4WEqsf

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) have cautioned consumers and medical professionals around the use of certain medications and herbal supplements. It follows 18 reports to the regulator of liver injuries resulting from products which contain turmeric or curcumin (as of August, 2023).The TGA confirmed that the risk does not relate to turmeric in typical dietary amounts and said that it would continue to monitor the situation. It is considering further regulatory action, including warning label on applicable products. When it comes to supplements, personalised advice is best.
